When Should You Book Your Senior Portraits in Virginia?
It's one of the most common questions I get from junior parents: "When should we book?" The short answer? Earlier than you think.
Here's everything you need to know about timing your senior portrait session in Virginia — so you get the dates, the look, and the experience you actually want.
The Earlier You Book, the Better Your Options
The most popular dates for senior portraits in the Ashland and Hanover County area fill up fast — especially late spring and early-mid summer, when the light is beautiful and seniors are wrapping up junior year and heading into senior year.
At KBP, we typically start booking the next senior class in the spring of junior year. If you wait until senior year starts in the fall, you may find your preferred dates are already gone.
The sweet spot for booking and having your consult: Spring of junior year (March–May) for summer or early fall sessions.
Best Times of Year for Senior Portraits in Virginia
Virginia is beautiful year-round, but each season offers something different:
Spring (April–June) Blooming trees, soft green backgrounds, and beautiful natural light. One of the most popular times — book early.
Summer (June–August) No school conflicts, lots of colorful flowers. Our included hair and makeup combats the heat beautifully!
Fall (September–October) The fall light in Virginia is incredible — warm, golden, and perfect for portraits. Fall is our busiest season, so these dates go first.
Winter (November–January) Cooler temperatures lend to studio sessions being a great choice. Great for seniors who want something unique.
Don't Forget Yearbook Deadlines
Most schools in Hanover County and the Richmond area have yearbook photo deadlines in October or November of senior year. At KBP, your yearbook sitting and submission to your school is included with every session — but you need to have your session before that deadline.
If you're booking in the fall of senior year, make sure you have plenty of time before your school's deadline.
